Cotton Print Dress

This is your basic cotton printed dress, however I added a few details to this dress that you may not notice until you take a closer look. I purchased about a yard and a half less than I normally would when making a dress. I wanted to do this to see if I could use every scrap of fabric I had and still get away with a full dress. One thing you will notice on original garments from this period is how often they were "pieced." This basically means they used their fabric very sparingly and if they didn't have quite enough fabric for their garment, they would take scraps and sew them in place to fit the pattern piece. If you have a printed fabric, it's a lot easier to piece a garment, but I have also seen garments made of plaids that were beautifully pieced together. One plaid silk bodice I have has piecing all over the front and back of the bodice. I actually had to look very closely before I noticed there was so much piecing that made up this bodice. It's really very ingenious!

This is something I have noticed is rather lacking in reproductions today; I thought it would be a nice change to try and add a little extra touch to some of my garments. I'm hoping to make more garments similar to this with little details.

If you are interested in this style, but would like a different size made, please feel free to contact me and I can make a similar dress in the measurements you specify.
