Silk Taffeta Gown with Chocolate
Silk Trimming
SOLD
This gown is made of a lovely tiny cranberry and white gingham silk
taffeta which is almost iridescent when held to the light. This 100%
silk taffeta is so luxurious and has a wonderful crisp drape to it.
Taffeta was one of the most popular types of silk in the mid 19th
century and was used for day dresses, formal evening and ball gowns as
well as different types of outer wear, headwear and about anything else
you could imagine. It is one of my favorite types of fabrics to work
with.
The bodice is darted and lined in cream cotton sateen. Each dart as
well as the side seams have steel boning encased in them for extra
support to the garment. The waist, neckline and armscyes are piped with
narrow piping. It closes with hand sewn hooks and eyes down the front
opening and has decorative black glass buttons sewn on top. The sleeves
are a variation of the coat sleeve with gathers on the outside seam.
The sleeves and bodice are trimmed with chocolate silk ruching and
attached by hand stitches. Trimming was inspired by a CdV from this era
and is pictured below.
The side-front skirt is knife pleated and neatly hand stitched to
the bodice. Please specify your desired skirt length when ordering. I
will then add a hand stitched hem facing to the bottom to finish it
off.
All you need now are cuffs and a collar and your outfit is complete!
